LaL Language Centres was set up in Torbay in 1980, and offers language courses with leisure programmes for adults and young learners around the world. LaL have schools for adults in Boston, London, Torbay, Florida, Cape Town, Malta and Gozo. LaL also run residential summer schools in the UK, USA and Malta.

LaL prides itself on the quality of their courses. The lessons are taught by trained teachers, and the schools are accredited in each country as a mark of the high standards.

LaL stands for ‘Language And Leisure’, which emphasises our belief that students should get out of the classroom and enjoy themselves while practising their new language skills. The activity programme for Young Learners is fully supervised by a large team of Activity Assistants and provides the students with a mix of compulsory and optional activities every week. Adults are offered a wide range of excursions and tours, ranging from visits to local beauty spots to trips to cities further afield. LaL have their own minibuses and employ driver-guides to help the students get the most out of their visit.

We're confident that our teaching methodology and learning opportunities will allow you to reach your goals. We make sure that everyone is in the right class with a level test on the first day. If you do not progress as expected we will provide you with additional support to ensure your success at no additional cost. We guarantee you will reach your learning goals in the number of weeks shown on the right if:

• You use every opportunity to practise English outside the classroom
• You have adequate linguistic capability

LAL Torbay is located in the town of Paignton, and is only moments from the town centre and the seaside. The school building has been refitted to provide up-to-date facilities and an excellent environment to learn English.

LAL Torbay has 31 classrooms which hold a maximum of 12 students (15 in the summer) . After your lessons you can spend your free time with your friends in the landscaped school garden or in the student cafeteria where you can grab hot meals and snacks.

If you wish, you can spend your afternoon at school and keep practising your English in the student lounge or in the computer room.

The library and bookshop will also be at your disposal where you can borrow or buy books. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, you can take part in the Chat, Book and Film clubs.
